Teased: Honda Activa Electric Scooter
The launch date of Honda Activa electric scooter is November 27, 2024. That is when the automobile community will learn the confirmed technical specifications of the EV by Honda. The scooter and motorcycle company has teased its looks and basic expected details like battery, variants, and speed. This should pretty much quench everyone’s hunger till then.
Honda Activa EV is believed to come with a swappable battery to help ride the electric scooter for at least 90 km. A few reports have said it could go as high as 104 kms, or as low as 80 kms depending on the riding mode. It may come loaded with two modes, namely Standard and Sport. An economic mode is expected to feature as well. Precise battery consumption and speed would depend on the riding mode of the customer.
Some discussions state that the actual battery consumption is based on the speed with which an electric scooter, or also an electric car for that matter, is driven.
To pinpoint, Honda Activa electric scooter could have a battery, swappable in nature, with a range of 80-104 kms. There are fewer words on the maximum speed. Trends suggest that Honda will have to do a minimum of 80 kmph to compete with other brands.
Honda Activa EV will have a comparatively smaller digital display with turn-by-turn navigation based on the variant a customer buys. There are likely to be two variants with different prices and, without a doubt, different features. The offering of the disc brake and a touch screen would be integrated only with the higher model. The lower one could be limited to a basic display and a basic braking mechanism to meet price sensitivity.
It will ride on 12-inch alloy wheels plus a futuristic design. A sneak peek into it during a recent automobile show has triggered excitement among the community members. They are hopeful that the EV scooter will retain the same design without any change. Slight variations at the back would enhance the overall look of Honda Activa electric scooter.
Honda is not planning to provide an attached pillion backrest. Customers may have to get it separately; however, pillion grab rail and pillion footrest will have a place as standard offerings. TFT Instrument Cluster has been quoted under the additional feature in electric Activa, probably for both variants.
The price range of Honda Activa Electric is estimated to be ₹80,000/- - ₹1,20,000/-. This would put it in a soft spot against competitors like Suzuki and Lambretta, both of which are planning to launch their models later this year, or by the next year. Suzuki Burgman Street Electric is tentatively scheduled to launch by the end of 2024 at a starting price of ₹1,05,000/-. Lambretta V200 is tentatively scheduled to launch in July 2025 at the starting price of ₹1,00,000/-.
Meanwhile, Honda will compete with players who have already established a place in the EV scooter market. These are Ola, Ather, and TVS. Ola is struggling to keep up with maintenance services, Ather is relying more on word of mouth, and TVS is taking its time to penetrate deep into the market. Honda does have a chance if it capitalizes on the brand name of one of the highest-selling scooters in India, that is Bharat.
