New WhatsApp Features You Probably Missed, Or Use Less Often
Knowing about new features of WhatsApp is as necessary as the mobile application itself has become in everyone’s life. Mobile devices are in everyone’s palms and WhatsApp is at everyone’s fingertips. Basic uses of messaging platforms are sending and receiving messages in different forms like text, images, videos, and/or GIFs. Add-ons are in the form of status updates, file sharing, and location sharing.
This article covers new WhatsApp features that you have either missed or don’t use frequently even though they are helpful, entertaining at the most.
Exploring New Features of WhatsApp
WhatsApp is making strides within the community of its users based on existing offerings. For instance, WhatsApp Pay has made it convenient for users to interact while transferring money. A larger number of stickers have made chat boxes engaging plus more interactive, especially among the younger audiences. Business Verified offering has made users feel safe when connecting with a brand - personal assessment and safety practices are still advised.
Some of the WhatsApp features that also deserve some limelight are mentioned below.
Looks
The primary purpose of modifying the looks, or aesthetics, of WhatsApp is to align every element of WhatsApp with branding. The secondary purpose is to make essential features accessible to users.
New features of WhatsApp have precisely done that. A change in color to green is to trigger a familiarity with the overall branding image. Next, easy navigation for Android and iOS users of the messaging platform has taken center stage. One can find the search bar at the top which was once moved to the bottom. It is back to the correct position probably based on feedback from its users.
Upgrading looks, or aesthetics, can happen at once or it can take its time. It happens nevertheless with users missing out on the subtle changes and intentions behind them.
Meta AI
It should not be a surprise that Meta integrated its Artificial Intelligence (AI) into WhatsApp under the name Meta AI. Mark Zuckerberg is an AI enthusiast himself. Thereby, only making it a sensible move to mainstream it to the messaging platform on Android and iOS versions.
Meta AI comes with an icon that can be tapped for multiple uses. Anyone who accesses Meta AI on WhatsApp can ask questions which would be answered instantly. Questions can also be asked by uploading an image which would be scanned by Meta AI for a response. This is not a point where it ends. New WhatsApp features are likely to upgrade the AI mechanism with celebrity voices and the capability to edit images.
Users will have an option to choose the voice of their favorite celebrity. Image editing may help enhance an image like allowing to remove strangers or changing the colors of an object.

Love Status
WhatsApp status updates have become a way for users to share their favorite moments with their contacts. There is an option to hide status updates, of course. But instead of separately sending those moments to contacts, one can add them to their status updates - later track who has seen those updates.
Now, there is a way for contacts to express love from their side on WhatsApp. All they have to do is tap the heart-shaped icon. The user would be notified about it and would be able to see the same when they track views to their status updates. Maybe the feature is borrowed from Instagram. That fits best to make a troll. It remains interactive for better engagement along with a way to express love from the other side as a reaction. Such a reaction appears at the top of the list of viewers.
Other features related to WhatsApp stories are private mentions plus re-share. Private mentions privately notify that particular user about the story update while re-share allows them to share the same story with a single tap.
Custom List
Built on top of chat filter, the idea behind Custom List is to help users find a chat box faster. WhatsApp, through this feature, allows users to add a new list to their profile and later search for chats efficiently.
A list could be titled, say, Neighbors, or Cousins, or even Family as per the preference of the user. Once added, Custom List can be accessed to navigate to the chat box or the message that one is looking for. Custom List was announced on October 31, 2024, and it is being rolled out across different regions. The core objective is that users can focus on people or conversations that matter to them the most.
Custom List works on the same tracks as favorites. It can be created and edited for groups and one-on-one chats, later appearing in the filter bar. A simple search using the search bar works fine in the meantime. What Custom List does is that it puts all of it into the filter bar as an alternative to accessing the search bar.

Custom Background
One WhatsApp feature that deserves a mention is Custom Background on video calls. Users can be anywhere in the world and they would be able to customize their background in a video call. This allows users to hide any potential unavoidable disturbance or unattractive element around them. It adds to the availability of filters for WhatsApp video calls.
Conclusion
In case all, or some, features don’t appear on your WhatsApp, then try upgrading to the latest version or wait till they are completely rolled out. Latest WhatsApp features take time to reach the community of over a billion global users. Don't shy away from exploring these WhatsApp features in case you have not done so till now.
